9)“I know the bible record is right …” That’s what my Great-great-great grandmother had to explain to college-educated lawyers who asked her the dates of her children’s birthdays while applying for a veteran’s pension for herself and her children. Although she didn’t know her own birthday, she had her former master’s son, Joel Moore, write down the birthday of each of her nine children in her family bible, a book she couldn’t read.

10)Honorable Discharge: this is my great-great-great grandfather’s passport to freedom for himself and his future generations. I salute him for his service to his family and his country!
